Born and raised in Toowoomba, Ross lived there until he was 18 before embarking on a career in retail that spanned 37 years. Over the years, he worked with major brands such as Kmart, Big W, Best & Less, Reject Shop, and Coles, where he started as a junior at just 14 years old and worked his way up to Store Manager. Spending 15 years at The Reject Shop, Ross took on roles as Store Manager, Regional Manager, and eventually State Manager. Seeking a change of pace after decades in retail, he transitioned into traffic control for four years before moving into security work at Brisbane Airport, screening passengers.
For many years, Ross had considered owning his own business but never felt the timing was right. Shift work in his current role made it difficult to achieve the work-life balance he desired, and he was ready to take control of his own future. After searching online for six months and exploring various options, he discovered James Home Services through a Facebook ad. Unlike other business opportunities that felt impersonal or lacked real support, Ross was immediately impressed by the genuine approach of James Home Services. There was no hard sell—just honest, helpful information and a welcoming team ready to assist him on his journey. This solidified his decision to take the leap and start his own business.
Ross is driven by the goal of creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. He values the ability to make his own decisions, set his own schedule, and work towards a future where he can balance professional success with personal fulfillment. With a love for the outdoors, camping, and fishing—activities he hasn’t had nearly enough time for in recent years— his new venture allows him to spend more time outside doing what he enjoys. A passionate foodie, he also loves experiencing different cultures through food and is always eager to try new flavours. Having recently returned from a trip to Singapore, he appreciates the diversity and richness that new experiences bring to life.
What excites Ross most about running his own business is the opportunity to work in the great outdoors, free from the confines of four walls. He looks forward to interacting with customers, building strong relationships, and becoming a trusted service provider in the community. Unlike his role in airport security, where interactions are often brief and transactional, this business allows him to engage with people on a deeper level.
